. . . same 'old' story . . . .

I was pleased to find this rather well used copy of Zola's L'assommoir this week, and immediately thought I haven't got this one, because I don't remember the cover . . . so then I carried the book around in my bag for a couple of days before checking on my box of Zola, only to find I have got it after all . . . different cover . . .
I actually prefer the red one with the old photo, it looks to be the 'same' cover design as this Therese Raquin.

I first read Zola as part of my A level French course and have read a few more since then, and although each novel stands alone as a story, I have wanted to read the complete Rougon-Macquart series in the right order. I thought I might do that this year, but as I haven't started yet, I don't think it will be happening. Next year maybe.

  1. I haven't read any Zola, but I do have any number of French books, some untouched and others half finished. My technique is to promise myself something easy to read after 30 minutes of French. Sometimes it works.
