"I say, is that an aspidistra?"

"No, it's a dog."

I imagine the lady was at a family gathering, maybe a wedding, as there are several photos in the album taken in the same part of the back yard and everyone is quite dressed up for the occasion.  Obviously the dog got in on this shot too.


  1. I would say the dog is more of a ham than a plant! Cute little ham, too!

  2. The lady is very well dressed. I wonder why she carries the dog on a tray. The poor old Aspidistra has been in every Victorian parlor as piece of resistance. I think this plant was also called the cast iron plant as it was so tough and did not mind neglect.
