waiting for the soup . . .

these wedding guests can have a smoke between courses, notice the cigarettes arranged nicely in the centre of the table.  The daffodils in the flower arrangement suggest a spring wedding.  Late 1950s, maybe even 1960.


  1. They look as if they're still dressed for the outdoors. The cigarettes are amusing. When my parents had parties in the 1960s they also put out cigarettes even though they didn't smoke. I think it was expected.

  2. Good eye on the deduction of the wedding time, Lisa! And those ladies without hats; are you sure they are British? My one UK wedding had virtually every woman with a hat or "fancier!"
