"Taken at Aberystwyth"

"Aug 1911" is written on the reverse of this photo postcard.  Sadly they didn't write their names and we have no way of knowing what became of them. Most likely it was a family day out to the seaside, they are very formally dressed as was the norm at that time.  The father seems to be missing from the picture, but maybe they were from a farming family and he had stayed at home, they look like they have 'working' hands.  I wonder if in 1911 there were already the rumblings of a looming world war, I wonder if the young man on the left made it safely home, and was his younger brother old enough to enlist in the latter years of the war.
And would they ever have thought that we'd be thinking and wondering about them 100 years on.

  1. It's a fine looking group, somewhat shrouded in mystery. Funny how people can seemingly disappear from thought once you go out a few generations. Good for you for bringing them back for a visit!
