"we are very lucky . . ."

Here we are in Blackpool, we're at Gynn Square looking towards the North Shore, and it's some time in the early/mid-1960s.  It's out of season, but the time is right for the Illuminations.  If you need the ladies, go up the steps and turn to the right.  I wonder what the weather was like . . .

Dear Ada,
I think according to the news that we are having better weather than you have been having, as although we have had some dull periods we have not had much rain, so we are very lucky.  We have had quite a lot of sunshine.  It is a bit too nippy to sit on the front, but that is to be expected this time of the year.  Love from all of us, Doris.

  1. What a cool cancellation that is. I wonder if they still do something comparable? The two times I have been in Blackpool both had interesting weather; shirt sleeves in October for the Illuminations and slight snow showers in May. You just never know!

  2. Slogan postmarks are not what they used to be, they do still exist (generally but far fewer) but I don't know that they feature 'local' themes and events as much as they did, say in the 1960s and 1970s. Blackpool Tower featured on a new stamp recently - in an alphabetical set of sights around the UK - the website is down at the minute to find a link to it.
