the quayside

Venice, 1952.  This image comes from a scanned negative (so there's a chance it could be the wrong way round).  You can just see a larger ship here.  I haven't finished scanning the negatives yet, so no doubt more to come.


  1. Sure looks a lot less crowded some 60 years ago! I like finding negatives as they hold more of a mystery than prints. You have to work to bring the secrets forth.

  2. I suppose it could be the wrong way around, but I sure like it this way. There is such a fine sense of movement in this photo. I think the fact that some areas are over exposed actually enhances that, because it makes you focus on the walking figures. This is a beauty!
