torn!

This is not quite what it seems, as the photograph isn't torn or repaired in any way.  So I can only think that maybe the negative was torn in two and somehow printed without being properly joined together.
As for the time and place, I think it is late 1920s/early 1930s, somewhere in Germany.

  1. It does kind of look like those coats from the 20's, though that looks like a radio tower from the 30's! The infant, if still alive, is in their late 70's to early 80's, which blows me away when I look at these old images.

  2. How interesting. It is not that easy to tare a negative - it couldn't possibly be an old glass negative which had been broken could it?

  3. Alan, I hadn't thought of that (oops), would the date fit for a glass negative or would it be too late?
I suppose it could be that the original photo was torn, and then a reprint made which duplicated the tear and so they had the photo in preference to one which had to be taped.
