Sunday stamps

This GB set of birds was issued se-tenant in blocks of 4, in August 1966.  The card signed by the designer, J Norris Wood, was bought (by someone else, not me) at the British Philatelic Exhibition in London that same year.

The balcony makes me think this might be at a B&B where the family are holidaying, rather than where they live. 1950s snapshot.

Sunday stamps

Here's another set that I came across whilst looking for the 'post' theme a couple of weeks ago. This set showing medieval minarets was issued in 1971 for Post Day in Egypt.

The 55m shows the Al Hakim Mosque, which has the earliest surviving minarets in Cairo (wiki link).
The 20m shows the minaret of the mosque at Esna (which is in Upper Egypt, between Luxor and Aswan).

The 10m is the minaret of As Salih mosque, and the 5m the minaret of the al-Mansur Qalawun mosque (wiki link).

Sunday stamps

When I was looking out some stamps and covers for the post theme, I came across this FDC from 10 September 1985, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Tourism Organization.

The stamp depicts Akhenaten worshipping the Aten (wiki link).

Sunday stamps

In Egypt, January 2nd is Post Day, and it appears that most years stamps are issued on this day, so I had quite a few to choose from for this week's theme of 'Post'.
This mini-sheet was issued in 1966 to commemorate the centenary of the first Egyptian stamp.

This stamp (and FDC) are from Post Day 1985.  The stamp depicts the Pharaoh receiving a letter and the Postal Museum in Cairo.

Finally a set of two stamps from 1977, issued on 12th April, for the 25th Anniversary of the Arab Postal Union.
