at Skegness

After being absent from blogging for several weeks, I thought a day or so at the seaside in the past may be nice.  So here was a day in Skegness, a seated 'walking picture', taken by 'Hudsons Portraits, Imperial Buildings, Opposite Pier, Skegness'.
Here's a link to a Frith photo from the 1950s of the Pier Hotel, which is probably around the time of this seaside souvenir.
If you had an idea to recreate the picture today, it would be impossible.  I think this is the google street view that would correspond.

  1. Welcome back. Interesting - comparing with the Google picture, it looks like the top floors of the hotel have been cut off. I wonder what happened to the happy couple in your photo, and who they were/are.

    1. Thanks Mike, sadly I have no idea who the couple were, but the chap did spend some time in Africa, I have a couple of pictures from that time to post.

  2. Yes you're back! And with a sunny picture, that's suitable now the sun has returned (at least for a couple of days). I'm with Mike, it seems that the top half of the building has been removed. Judging by streetview, the surrounding area hasn't been much improved either the last couple of decades.

    1. I don't think I would have recognised the building without the Frith's vintage postcard which shows the black and white building nearby. It is quite shocking how some of these seaside towns have 'developed'.
We are having some sunshine too, which makes a pleasant change. :)
