in patriotic colours . . .

. . . Miss Gabrielle Ray.
Postcard used in 1905.
At first glance, the flags look like a Union Jack (with the red and blue reversed) and a Netherlands flag also reversed, errors in colouring or for comedy, I don't know.
Here's a link to an uncoloured version of the same postcard (scroll down the page), and go further down the page and there's a different coloured version too.
Any help with identifying the flags appreciated :).

  1. The flag in her left hand may be a french flag ?

    1. the stripes are vertical on the French flag, although my first thought was that the postcard was to do with the Entente Cordiale of 1904, but that would need 'correct' flags for GB and France, thanks for your comment.

  2. Ah, the lovely Miss Gabrielle, she looks good whatever she is wearing or carrying. I'm no flag expert, the Dutch flag is very simple (and very old). The UK narrowly escaped having to redesign their own flag last week.

    1. redesigning the flag - imagine the cost - and what a worry when one thinks of what they ended up with for the olympics logo!

    2. That was a very strange logo indeed...
