on the shore

I don't know anything about this structure on the beach, but I'm wondering if it might be connected with coastline defences dating from the 1st World War.  The photo (snapshot) dates from the 1930s and is with a bundle of pictures, some with a connection to Cleethorpes, so that could suggest this is on the Lincolnshire Coast.

  1. I think it's one of the Humber forts which were intended to protect the Humber estuary. I lived for a time near Cleethorpes (Grimsby) so this series of photos has some nostalgia for me.

    1. Thanks Sheila, I'm pleased the photos bring back some memories for you and thanks for the identification. It's not an area of the country I am familiar with at all. I had no idea about the Humber Forts (not even that they existed), then I found Rod Collins' blog on Lincs (Rob has the link in his comment). I still wasn't sure whether this was one of them, so I emailed Rod Collins when I posted this picture, I'll post an update when he replies.
