Sunday stamps II 8

For this week's theme of ships, I have a stamp issued by Egypt in 1975 to mark the re-opening of the Suez Canal on June 5.  It had been closed since 1967.

I'm linking with Sunday Stamps II hosted by Violet Sky at 'See it on a Postcard'.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. I like the stylized design of this stamp. Interesting topic, too.

  2. I think this theme has deserved more than one stamp, hasn't it?
I love the design, and the "salam/peace" on the boat :)

  3. A friend of mind was on one of the first ships through the Canal after it was reopened. My brother saw it at first hand in WWII.
    Clean cut stamp with Sadat.

    1. I've seen it and watched ships go along it, but never been on it.

  5. I like the map included on the stamp. And, of course, the PEACE on the ship.

  6. Now that is a very decorative and pretty stamp. I like the ships and the name, Peace.

  7. And the stamp could be used for a "maps on stamps" theme too. I didn't know the canal had been closed for so long!

  8. I hadn't realised it was closed for so long, the stamp contains a nice variety of themes.

  9. I hadn't realised it took so long for the Canal to re-open either. I love the stylised look of the ships.
